I went to this concert with my girlfriend and a bunch of friends from high school. Fugazi had not yet become my favorite band before this show, but there was no doubt in my mind afterward. A few songs in this recording sound a bit rough around the edges, but the in-person experience was transcendent and still comes across for the majority of this audio-only experience. The overall energy and performance captured in this recording are amazing and go a long way in demonstrating why the band built a loyal following in its early days. My teenage friends and I left this venue convinced we'd just heard the greatest band on Earth. We weren't wrong.

My girlfriend and I used to go this same venue for local punk shows from long-forgotten bands like Shortcut, and those shows were billed as being at "The Alley" because you'd enter the club from the literal back alley for the local daytime shows. It was called "1227" due to its street address for the nighttime shows with nationally touring bands from out of town. Other bands that blew our minds here included TSOL who put on a stunningly hard-rockin' show, and Trent Reznor back when he was just a sweaty, skinny, long-haired solo act with his keyboards as Nine Inch Nails on an early tour for the Pretty Hate Machine album.

I was in Dogfight, great show and Ian gave me a knob for my SG.

“The Alley” came from Sat matinée shows where you actually entered from “the alley” in back.

Highlight - me singing one of out songs and then my dumb 6.5 body cartwheeling off the stage like a injured giraffe, classic.

Ian is correct. Just "1227".
I was at this show with my then girlfriend who became my wife.
What is strange is that I think I know Ian.

As I understand it, the venue name was simply "1227" and was located on Washington Ave. Not sure where the "Alley" came from exactly.
