Just one day after their gig at Sammy’s in the city of Dunedin, Fugazi found itself some 800 kilometers up north in Wellington (traveling - or most probably hauling ass - along what is reportedly one of the most beautiful scenic routes in New Zealand).

Here, the band delivered another standout performance, in spite of a collapsing stage. As early as one song into the set, Guy addresses the crowd, “we got a really big problem here, you see this back wall, it has just caved in because you shoved the stage right through it, so you’ve gotta not push up this way, the entire stage is… it must have moved about 4 and a half feet for those of you in the far back, it’s actually kind of amazing, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it” - a recurrent feat throughout the evening.

Even though I very much enjoy listening to this recording and it is definitely better sounding (notably the vocals and bass) than the one documenting the Dunedin concert on the previous night, I still favor the Dunedin set list and selection of songs. Either way, both recordings make for a lot of fun and merit attention.

Interestingly, the band takes off the way they left off the night prior: playing the Steady Diet staple Exit Only. Note as well that Fugazi performed the complete 3 Songs seven-inch in Wellington, which includes the only live renderings of both Song #1 and Break-In during the New Zealand leg of the tour (5 shows).
