Please Note: Available recordings have been mastered to correct for volume shifts, drop outs, etc. but some sonic anomalies will still exist, especially early in the set when the mix is being settled. The band has rated each show for sound quality and set the general price of a download at $5 per show. If you have a different price in mind feel free to utilize the alternative pricing option.
This is a really good recording of what must have been a great show, the final date of the 2002 Spring Southern USA/ Texas tour.
The sound quality is good, the set is high-energy and eclectic (including songs from all 10 Fugazi releases), and there is some entertaining banter.
There's an article by Liza Bacerra in "The Breeze", the James Madison University newspaper, which provides some context about MacRock (formerly known as The Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference), and has some nice photos of this show.
In particular there is one photo captioned "A wild crowd tosses its torn book pages in excitement as Fugazi winds down the conference" that nohelps understand Ian's remarks about librarians:
"Who is the disgruntled librarian?
It's terrible what's happening up here.
Is he gone? He's upset about something?
He hates books, he can't read, what's going on here?
(inaudible shouting from the audience)
Well, if there's some librarians out here,
if you come across that particular librarian,
maybe beat him into a pulp or something, you know,
tell him that's not a way you treat a book, really!"
