I was at this show, too! It's awesome to be able to relive the experience, through these Live Series recordings, all these years later. Great work, Dischord. Thanks.

The year of 1993 not only turned out to be the most arduous year in the live history of the band (adding up to a stellar 134 shows) but is one of my go-to eras to this very day, providing some of my absolute favorite recordings.

Case in point the string of shows that concluded the North American and Canadian leg of the tour in the fall of 1993, featuring some truly incredible and memorable gigs, showcasing the band firing on all cylinders. The two-night stints at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City and at the Trocadero in Philadelphia come to mind, as well really cool performances in Binghamton, New York or Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.

The recording of this show at the infamous Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel (currently The Strand Ballroom & Theatre) in Providence, Rhode Island dates back to the same time-period and falls right into this category in my book.

I will agree with my friend Antti (see submission below) that this one ticks all the right boxes and surely is another gem and highlight addition to the series.

Another one of those recordings where I could just write "get this, get this now".

But instead I'll babble on.

First off, let's talk about the sound. Man, does the mix rule or what. Everything's so powerful yet clear and wide. I completely agree with the rating "excellent". There's some mix settling during the first few tracks but even then it's great.

The band fire away as an amazingly tight unit hardened by a long tour that's basically taken them through most of the year. Rend It is one highlight as it's full of emotion and power fueled by some great singalong from the crowd. Instrument is another extra special one here being as heavy as it gets.

Stacks is just awesome and has something funny and absurd added by Ian. Afterwards you can totally sink yourself in Brendan's jazzy drumming as the opening fill starts Cassavetes.

Suggestion is a pure delight. Listen as the crowd is totally into it and sings along with Ian all the way. The fact that you can hear the crowd so well on a soundboard recording such as this tells of the amount of the room's air they caught on tape that night. Suggestion flows right into a really rocking Break-In, and then straight into Waiting Room.

The psychedelic guitar feedback interplay with the added reverb on Shut The Door makes me feel like I'm the one overdosing. In a good way. Two Beats Off continues this amazing feeling with some insane jamming from Guy.

Add to all this some hilarious banter, which mostly deal with the band acting as a lost & found service, plus great encores and you have a very enjoyable tape. A powerhouse recording and an entertaining show, highly recommended! So get this, get this now.

...and regarding the notion about the track listing in my earlier post - ignore it. It was a problem on my end.

Oh and now I notice it has been fixed. Thank you FLS!

Break-In and Waiting Room are tracks 17 and 18, so they are supposed to appear after Suggestion. For some reason the order is mixed up, even with the tags being correct.

But instead I'll babble on. I don't know what's the deal with Break-In and Waiting Room tagged at the start of the tape before the intro. But there they are, and to my ears it seems that they are from this show. Last encores that somehow got put at the start when digitizing? Soundcheck? I think there's audience cheering, so the latter maybe not. Well, we may never know, but they are great performances anyway, so it's just fine and I'm glad they are available.
