I have been looking forward to listening to this recording, since it's the first Fugazi gig in my home country, and the only show in Belgium on this first European tour. So this one strikes a chord with me, even though I was only 12 years old at the time and had yet to discover Dischord or anything hardcore and punk for that matter.
It is interesting to note that this show took place in the afternoon, and that it's the first of two Fugazi shows played on the same day. The band would head to Amsterdam straight after to play another gig in the evening.
The sound quality of this recording is rated "poor" on the Fugazi Live Series website and, unfortunately, I have to agree since most of it - and the instruments especially - sounds notably suppressed and there is a bit of a constant underlying static hiss as well.
It sounds slightly better during the slow-paced or quiet parts, but overall pretty much falls apart as soon as the tempo picks up.
The result is a recording that doesn't really mark the spot but rather leaves a fleeting impression.
Still, the performance by the band is quite solid in general, even though Guy is still struggling with a cold, which does seem to downplay his usual fervour and influences his singing.
The set list includes 12 songs. Nothing out of the ordinary happens and no new songs are added to the repertoire on this particular occasion, but for what it's worth, it can be noted that the recording is incomplete and that The Word cuts off abruptly.
