Part of a series of paintings in a vintage paperback book cover style based on Evan Keeling’s research into the history of the DC punk scene. Imitating a variety of vintage illustration and cover styles  the back cover has the quote from Evan’s interviews that informed the cover illustration.

We Made Zines By Night

I had been hanging out with Allison and Molly while they were on spring break. Molly had a summer job with a congressman or something and we would sneak in at night to use the xerox machine. They were making their “Girl Germs” fanzines and I was making flyers for Ulysses.

I have conflicted feelings about it all, because it's part of the lore... but I totally used my dad's office and he got charged back for the copies. so even though in my head it was free, it wasn't! I owe him a few hundred bucks with inflation. We went in there at night with keys and used the office supplies to "design" and duplicate the Riot Grrrl zine! I also did one other zine at a more wild location...
