Evan Keeling, in partnership with Lost Origins, has published 9 hand-bound blank journals featuring original artwork. Each cover is part of a series of paintings inspired by Evan's deep dive into the history of the DC punk scene.

Store Update: HAN-SHAN - 8 Song EP
11.22.24
Han-shan’s music was psychopathic, with blood-curdling vocals, and messy but powerful, in the vein of Void, Siege or Septic Death. The band
played to the absolute limits of their physical ability and then some, with a sound that complemented their West Coast contemporaries – bands like Heroin, Mohinder, Second Story Window, Antioch Arrow and Angel Hair. 8 Song EP is out now on L.G. Records.

Store Update: All My Friends Are Prizefighters
06.18.24
All My Friends Are Prizefighters is a 140 page book by Dan Treado. It started as a photo project in 1988 in which Dan conscripted his friends, most of them involved in the DC punk scene, to trick themselves out in thrift store boxing gear and pose as prizefighters in front of crudely painted scenic backdrops. The photos were taken in Dan’s studio, located directly above the much beloved, slightly sweaty, more than a little bent performance venue called d.c. space. Polaroids shot years later in Paris with willing artist friends round out the collection of images. Finally, writer Kevin Markey’s poignantly crafted fictional snapshots, peppered with the unique details and ripe memories of living in DC in the 80s, add a finely tuned tension to the whole endeavor.
Includes photos of: Brendan Canty, Guy Picciotto, Alec MacKaye, Ian Svenonius, Amy Pickering, Doug Birdzell, Steve Gamboa, and many more!

Store Update: Paddan - Fluid Time LP
05.10.24
Paddan’s Sigtryggur Baldursson and Birgir Mogensen are lifelong friends from Kópavogur, Iceland, who started as mates on the local football team, then graduated to making music together as teenagers and even later as young men doing time in the DIY collective KUKL, from 1983 - 1986. Released by London-based Crass, KUKL was populated by survivors of the post-punk scene in Iceland in the early 80s, well documented in the 1982 film “Rock in Reykjavik”. In addition to Birgir and Sigtryggur, it featured Guðlaugur Óttarsson, Einar Melax, Björk and Einar Örn, some of whom would become better known later in outfits like the Sugarcubes and their respective solo work and other collaborations.
Store Update: Bonnie "Prince" Billy, Nathan Salsburg & Tyler Trotter
04.25.24
When Nathan Salsburg’s daughter was a baby, he often sang her to sleep in a rocking chair. At one point, he remembered a song he had taught himself as a teenager: “The Evidence” by Lungfish, the Maryland band who coined a singular brand of post-punk in the 90s and 00s. Salsburg realized he could play the guitar part with one hand, singing while holding Talya in his other arm. Though the original version of “The Evidence” is only five minutes long, it’s essentially a repetitive mantra, so Salsburg could extend it as long as he wanted–10 minutes, 20 minutes, even an hour. “It was therapeutic and calming and just lovely for me,” he says. “And it worked on her.” Eventually Nathan and Talya moved on from their ritual, but his lullaby cover stayed in his head. So he proposed to his fellow Louisville collaborators Bonnie “Prince” Billy (aka Will Oldham) and Tyler Trotter that they record a version with Salsburg on guitar, Oldham singing, and Trotter adding drum machines and synths. They decided to pair it with a rendition of another Lungfish song, “Hear the Children Sing,” playing each tune for more than enough time to fill two sides of an album. The result is the beguiling Hear the Children Sing the Evidence, an album that displays the strengths and visions of the participants while showcasing how richly powerful Lungfish’s songs are.

Store Update: The Foreign Correspondents
04.14.24
Sometimes the best music happens when a group of friends get together and discover that they’re mutual fans of the same artist. When that group of friends is Ted Leo on vocals and guitar, Brendan Canty from Fugazi on drums, Michael Hampton from Faith/Fake Names on guitar, and Sohrab Habibion from The Obits on bass then you know that the recording is going to be special, and when the inspiration is the early 70’s work of French-Canadian legend Michel Pagliaro then you can be certain that it’s going to be magical. Lovin’ You Ain’t Easy is the first 7” in a series of nuggets from the Foreign Correspondents, join them as they travel the world searching for lost classics! This 7” is on color vinyl.
Store Update: NØ MAN - Glitter and Spit
03.24.24
Washington D.C.’s NØ MAN is a necessary and much-needed voice in modern hardcore. Formed in 2017, the four-piece punk band has been alchemizing the personal and the political from the jump. Composed of members from Majority Rule, the band’s current aims go hand-in-hand with their past, sonically and thematically.
Their upcoming album Glitter and Spit is the band’s third full-length The band’s members Matt Michel (guitar/vocals), Pat Broderick (drums) and Kevin Lamiell (Bass) helped lay the foundation for hardcore and screamo in Majority Rule from 1996 to 2004. Alongside the band, vocalist Maha Shami has been a longtime friend, giving a “cameo” guest vocal performance on Majority Rule’s “Packaged Poison” in 2004. When Majority Rule reunited in 2017 to perform multiple benefit shows, it ignited a desire to keep creating, and no one was better equipped to step in as front person than Shami.

Store Update: Wolves Again 7"
03.01.24
We're all familiar with this story: the pandemic struck, and people found themselves confined to their homes, left alone with their thoughts. Amidst various musical projects, Shelby Cinca reached out to his former bandmates with the idea of creating instrumentals in the style of Frodus—a desire that had never materialized during the band's active years. Despite the challenges of life and logistics, the project began to take shape as Nate and Shelby brainstormed and organized their ideas. They recalled an offer from their fellow DC friend and prolific musician, Aaron DC Edge, to provide raw drum tracks. Shelby accepted Aaron's offer to kickstart a rhythmic foundation, and soon the project came to life. Some tracks remained faithful to the original demos, while others underwent substantial editing. Eventually, songs began to take form in an organic manner, despite the geographical distance between the collaborators. The 7" is now available on Lovitt Records.

Store Update : Light Beams - Wild Life
11.17.23
On their new album Wild Life, Light Beams paint a surreal portrait of a world filtered through front person Justin Moyer’s recent experiences as a protest reporter (and a member of a Pulitzer Prize-winning team that covered the Jan. 6 attack on the United States Capitol). The shadow of the attack looms large over the record as the quintet acutely distills nine songs into a twenty-five-minute package that voyages through insurrection deep into the bittersweet heart of 21st-century America.
From their self-titled debut album through 2020’s Self Help, Light Beams have eschewed traditional melody instruments in favor of Moyer’s minimalist samplers and vocals, Sam Lavine’s drumming and Arthur Noll’s basslines. On Wild Life, they expand this palette with the addition of Leah Gage (vocals, rototoms) and Erin McCarley (vocals, timbales, samples). The result: bigger sounds, bigger themes, and a bigger canvas.
This is a split release between Dischord and Mud Memory Records.

Store Update : Las Mordidas Ex-Voto
08.27.23
Las Mordidas were a short-lived Washington DC band that existed from Summer 1993 through Spring 1994. The band was comprised of : Chris Thomson (Circus Lupus / Monorchid / Ignition), Dug E. Bird (Beefeater / All-Scars / Fidelity Jones),
Jon K. (Rain / Chrisbald 96 ), and Jerry Busher (Fugazi / All- Scars / Fidelity Jones).
Jon K. (Rain / Chrisbald 96 ), and Jerry Busher (Fugazi / All- Scars / Fidelity Jones).
The Chris Thomson-fronted bands Circus Lupus and Monorchid that bookended Las Mordidas have received much more exposure, but Las Mordidas were no less audacious and uncategorizable. The familiar DC rhythm section of Bird and Busher here are augmented by the unhinged guitar talent Jon K.). Jon was a revered, integral character in the DC scene and played in many well-known bands, yet he appeared on scant few recordings. To fans of the late ’80s and early ’90s DC scene, this record is an artifact that it arrives out of the blue and demands an ear.
Ex-Voto was recorded by Geoff Turner at WGNS in 1993 and Brendan Canty at Pirate House in 1994 and is being released for the first time by L.G. Records. Tapes recovered by Jerry Busher and transferred by Ian Mackaye and Don Godwyn. Mastered by Tim Green at Louder. Studios, CA.
Store Update: Fury - Resurrection
08.25.23
The brief story of Fury: At some point in 1989, members of Washington DC punk bands Swiz and Ignition formed Fury as a loose experiment with no intentions beyond being a diversion. The band existed for a few months, wrote six songs, and played two shows. Shawn Brown and Chris Thomson switched their musical roles from their regular bands as vocalist and bass player. The eyes-closed leap into those unfamiliar positions imbued the recording its feeling of deranged chaos, while the well-seasoned duo of Jason Farrell and Alex Daniels nailed down each song with the signature agility and power displayed in their more familiar work together.
The track “Resurrection” famously made it onto the final Swiz LP. The final track “Last One” got cut off halfway through recording and the band looped and spliced it into a dizzying psychedelic nightmare / masterpiece. The recording has faded into somewhat of an obsurity, a footnote to the larger careers of all of its members. The recording has now been re-released as a 12" on L.G. Records.

Store Update: Samuel S.C. High Places
04.07.23

Several tracks are reimagined 90’s Samuel originals, the remaining were written by the newly configured group between 2021 and 2022.
Store Update: Street Stains - S/t 10"
03.03.23
In the summer of 2008, Chris took the bus from Brooklyn to Philadelphia every Thursday afternoon to jam with Sean and watch the Olympics. They wrote more than 30 songs. Then they forgot about them until January of 2013. Chris was now living in D.C., and Sean convinced Aaron to cart his Tascam-388 up to Philly for an afternoon of recording. Captured on tape for the ages, these songs were quickly abandoned once more -- until the summer of 2014, when Chris finally recorded the words with Aaron back in D.C. Everybody forgot about the songs one more time before reconvening to mix them in the spring of 2015. And then -- after another two years had vanished into oblivion -- presto! "Street Stains" was released digitally in January 2017 and can finally be forgotten forever. Now on vinyl!
Store Update: Delarcos - Irradiate
02.13.23
It's been a minute since Nathan Strejcek first emerged on the DC punk scene as lead singer of The Teen Idles and Youth Brigade, and a co-founder of Dischord Records. He is back with a ‘new’ band, The Delarcos, a new record, Irradiate, and a new label, Punkish Records with the help of Dischord.
The Delarcos were founded in 2014 by Sean Epstein (drums, previously with Sisters of Morrissey), Mike Lastort (saxophone, 4th Wall), Kent Campbell (guitar), Jon Hamblin (vocals/guitar, Gleek) and Nathan (bass). The Delarcos contributed a cover of the unreleased Clash song Jericho to 2018 Record Store Day, Crooked Beat Records’ Recutting the Crap, Volume Two. Irradiate was recorded with Pete Banks on drums. Pete left and was replaced by Double Sharp Audio Studio's co-owner Wilfredo Morales (Swingamajig) in 2022.
The Delarcos new record Irradiate evokes the sounds and urgency of no-wave pioneers Pere Ubu, albeit with a more raw, humorous profile. Irradiate was produced by Brooke Delarco, engineered by Norman Van der Sluys and mastered by Tom Lyle (GI) at Inner Ear Studios. It is a split release between Dischord (No. 191.5) and Punkish Records (PR01).

Store Update: Against the Written Word
01.23.23
Against the Written Word by Ian Svenonius is the most important, most revolutionary book produced since the advent of the printing press; the book that will liberate readers from reading, writers from writing, and booksellers from peddling their despicable wares. This book ushers in a new era of freedom from reading and all its attendant bedfellows such as Enlightenment thinking and the mass alienation wrought by the phonetic alphabet. With nineteen essays ripping, shredding, tearing apart all the bugaboos that haunt humanity nowadays, Against the Written Word is a must-read for any aspiring radical or would-be gnostic who has a penchant for words, thought, clothes, intoxicants, music, art, expression, etc. The work is presented in a range of writing: essays, screenplays, lectures, sci-fi stories, and manifestos, with topics that include “the rise of incorporated man,” “tourism as the neoliberal mode of military occupation,” a workshop on songwriting for the purpose of suggestion and mind control, and many more.

Store Update : The Casual Dots - Sanguine Truth
08.25.22
The band is excited to announce the release of “Sanguine Truth," their second 10-song full-length album, on Christina Billotte's Ixorstix Records and produced by Fugazi's Guy Picciotto. These songs were composed and recorded between 2004 and 2019, at Inner Ear Studios with Don Zientara and at Figure 8 Studios in Brooklyn with Eli Crews. Spread out between three of the western world’s largest cities, the band members would regroup periodically to add a song here and there. Although the songs were written over a long span of time about various events and themes over the years, many of the album's songs appear particularly relevant to recent times . For example, the lyrics for “Frequency of Fear” were written and recorded in January of 2016, when there was not more than an inkling of the political insanity that would be realized over the next several years. The instrumental “17 Year-Old Locust” was written in 2004, the year of the same locusts that spawned 2021’s Brood X. Then, “Palindrome” is a reminiscence of a friend who decided to depart this world too soon, a situation that seems to be more prevalent than ever in this day and age. This is on clear vinyl.
