The members of Faraquet have announced plans to re-unite for a Brazilian tour this September and are gathering recordings from their various singles to look into re-issuing them onto a CD compilation. The Brazilian shows will feature a line-up featuring original members, Chad Molter and Devin Ocampo -- but not Jeff Boswell. However, the band hopes to play DC area shows upon the release of the CD with the full original line-up. Faraquet tour dates will be posted on the tours page as soon as they are confirmed.
Fans of Medications, fear not. According to the band members, the Faraquet reunion (Chad and Devin are in both Medications and Faraquet), and news of drummer Andy Becker's recent departure, do not spell the end of Medications. Chad and Devin will continue to move forward with their writing and hope to record a new Medications album later this year or early next.
Meanwhile, Andy Becker has started a new label called What Delicate Recordings which will make its debut with releases from avant - rockers, The Rude Staircase and Condor Moments in September and October respectively.

Mingering Mike: The Amazing Career of An Imaginary Soul Superstar by Dori Hadar is now available from the Dischord Web-store.
Mingering Mike is longtime resident of Washington DC, who from 1968 until 1977 created hundreds of hand drawn album covers, singles, even movie sound-tracks, chronicling his imaginary career as a musical superstar, record producer and record label mogul.
His intricate and beautiful covers remained completely unseen until DJ Dori Hadar discovered and rescued several bins of them while shopping at a local flea market. Hadar, who is also a private investigator, eventually tracked down and befriended Mingering Mike, helped compile his artwork for exhibition and helped free a star from his imagination.

The Peterbilt Label was founded in 1988 by Guy Picciotto. Over the years Peterbilt issued records by DC bands such as Happy Go Licky, Rain, Deadline, and The Black Light Panthers, all packaged in the distinctive manila envelopes that became the graphic signature of the label. Though all the original vinyl releases are long out of print, more recently, Peterbilt has partnered with Dischord to bring out Compact Discs of archival material from Happy GO Licky and One Last Wish, as well as CD re-issues of Rain and Deadline.

"On Atomic Yggdrasil Tarot, Higgs weaves meditative, casually ruptured drones using acoustic and electric guitar, upright pianos, banjo and jew's harp, recorded entirely at home on cassette recorder. He pairs the music with a series of paintings that call to mind religious iconography passed through the disfiguring surrealism of Miro." -Thrill Jockey

From the Australian re-issue label, Afterburn, comes The Vile Cherubs "The Man Who Has No Eats has No Sweats" CD, a lost document from the late 80's Washington DC Punk Underground. Existing for only a short space of time, The Vile Cherubs came, confused, endeared, and powered out their homage to warped 60's garage psych in chaotic and unique style before imploding into the abyss, leaving an odd LP (split w/ Dischord Records) and a mini legion of fans in their wake. This 14-track CD release collects the best of their studio recordings and adds FIVE PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED TRACKS, with a info booklet of notes, photo's and band history tree from then till now. Members of the Vile Cherubs have been in/currently reside in bands such as the NATION OF ULYSSES, CONCENTRICK, THE QUAILS, CIRCUS LUPUS, CAPITOL CITY DUSTERS, GOLDEN BEARS, THE FUCKING CHAMPS and more! This is a small slice of DC history which is worthy of staying in print for all willing ears.

We finally have copies available of the Daniel Higgs album, "Ancestral Songs", (on CD and LP) from Holy Mountain Records
We finally have copies available of the Daniel Higgs album, "Ancestral Songs", (on CD and LP) from Holy Mountain Records.
According to Holy Mountain ..."Ancestral Songs is comprised of apocalyptic tunes, a banjo raag, mellifluous birdsong, and the sci-fi-sounding duet of a searing Jew's harp and toy piano. "Are You of the Body?" brings out the electric tamboura tone and an accompanying acoustic guitar to melt the spine. A distorted motorik guitar riff propels Ancestral Songs to a close by focusing on the consistent tone and vibration that flows throughout the album." -- and we believe them!
